Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
It can be intimidating to show up to a group ride for the first time. . . We totally get it!
We hope this FAQ provides enough information to help you decide whether you'd like to ride with us (and we hope you do!)
If you have any other questions, please email us or send us a message on Instagram @thesundaychug!
Do you really ride EVERY Sunday? What about bad weather?
With extremely rare exception, YES!
If it's above 28 degrees at 8:30am, it's business as usual. If it's too cold at our regular time, we may push back to a 10am start and only post shorter distance options.
If it's below 28 degrees, even at 10am we chug on foot! Expect a hiking trail route that is about 10 miles. It's a great day to bring your non-cycling friends!
If the roads are wet, grab your fenders! We will delay or cancel only if there is lightning. Any same-day changes will be posted by 6:30am.
Please remember that this is Kansas! Your conductors watch the weather and try to make the best decisions for your safety and enjoyment, but we are not responsible for unexpected weather changes.
What kind of bike do I need?
We welcome any well-maintained bike you feel comfortable riding on rough surfaces for the route distance you're interested in. Though we've seen narrower and wider, the general consensus is that a tire width of 38-50mm is ideal. Most riders are on drop-bar gravel bikes, but a flat-bar hybrid can work, too!
What else should I bring?
What you pack along is up to you, but here are our recommendations!
Water bottles and/or hydration pack. Study the route and think about how far between stops it will be to help you determine how much fluid capacity you need.
Snacks! We are big fans of properly fueling your ride.
Flat kit. Tube, CO2 and/or hand pump, plugs if you're tubeless. If you forget and need to borrow someone else's supplies, make sure to offer to replace them back at the shop!
